Pacific Rundum Co., Ltd., was founded as the Iwase Plant of Nippon Soda Co., Ltd., in October 1936. In 1937, the Company held a ceremony celebrating the electrification of the Alundum electric furnace and began to manufacture grinding and abrasive products. The next year, the Company started to sell its main Nisso Rundum grinding and abrasive products. In December 1949, the Steel Division of Nippon Soda Co., Ltd., became independent as Nisso Steel Mfg. Co., Ltd. (currently Pacific Metals Co., Ltd.), and the Iwase Plant was developed as a manufacturing plant for alloy iron and artificial abrasives.
In 1968, the Company decided to withdraw from the alloy iron business, becoming a specialized plant for manufacturing of artificial abrasives.
In 1983, the Company spun off from Pacific Metals Co., Ltd., and made a new start as Pacific Rundum Co., Ltd., in a bid to expand its operations aiming at further development, the Company has expanded not only the artificial abrasive business, but also the fine ceramics businesses.

July 1985 | Entered into the technology collaboration of semiconductor heat-processing components with Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. |
September 1985 | Began to produce GMF silicon carbide ultrafine powder for fine ceramics. |
July 1986 | Began to produce PARUCOCERAM high-purity SiC for semiconductor diffusion furnaces. |
December 1993 | Began a trial production of ferrules parts for fiber optics communications. |
May 1995 | Established a joint venture company Shanghai Pacific Rundum Optical Devices Co., Ltd., in Shanghai, China. Began to produce ferrules in China. |
October 1997 | Acquired ISO 9002 (Quality System) certification for our high-purity silicon carbide material and parts for the semiconductor industry. |
October 1999 | Acquired ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certification. |
September 2000 | Extended ISO 9002 to ISO 9001. |
October 2000 | Established a joint venture company Pinghu Pacific Rundum Co., Ltd., in Pingfu city, Zhejiang province, China. |
March 2006 | Completed the construction of a new factory that produces GMF green silicon carbide ultrafine powder. |
January 2011 | The increased production of the facility for LA (raw material for electrical insulating) had been completed. |
June 2013 | Integrated the two companies in China, consolidated at Pinghu Pacific Rundum Co., Ltd. |
August 2013 | Acquired the extended ISO 9001 to silicon carbide and alumina powder. |
January 2018 | Stopped the production of the ferrule at Pinghu Pacific Rundum Co., Ltd. |
